The Nest encourages medically approved methods, like Lamaze (breathing techniques & exercises for pregnant woman) and yoga to facilitate natural birthing (normal delivery). Lamaze is a technique through which the woman's fear of pain during childbirth is reduced. This is achieved through knowledge about the childbirth process and relaxation techniques. Lamaze does not use any medication.
Breathing during labor means breathing at different rates and depths. Some women prefer deep breathing, using the diaphragm to fill the abdomen with air. Others prefer light breathing, inhaling just enough to fill the chest. Lamaze helps you identify which breathing pattern relaxes you. Your breathing should be at a comfortable rate and not cause shortness of breath or light-headedness. Lamaze teaches you to use breathing to focus on contractions and make each contraction a productive part of delivering your baby. Patterned breathing can be used even later in life as a response to pain, discomfort, anxiety or fear. It can become an everyday stress-busting tool.
